Northwest oyster harvest resumes; China remains closed

Commercial oyster harvesting can resume Saturday in all areas of Hood Canal and Puget Sound, officials said, now that the risk of bacteria-caused illness has declined due to cooler weather. But at least one effect remains from a recent recall of Hood Canal oysters. China has closed its borders to Washington state shellfish, according to a spokesman from Shelton-based Taylor Shellfish Farms, the nation’s leading producer of farmed oysters, mussels and clams, which sells up to $1 million a year to China…
